George annual fun race

This last weekend we all headed up to George for one of the most fun events of the season. Its a downhill race but there is no pressure and everyone has a blast. There is also an awesome skate park on the main road which we usually hit up aswell.

So we started of Saturday morning with some sick practice runs down the super fun course, fast with a bit of pedalling, jumps and loads of rocks. The track flows really well and is addictive! I went up there with Adi Van Der Merwe and his dad Andre, on the Saturday we did 12 runs down the course, it was that much fun!

After practice we had some lunch and then headed to the skate park, we did some whips and some 360's. We came home and then went for a little tennis session, well I tried, I am a begginer at tennis :) We then went home for a good braai followed by a trip to the bowling alley for a round of ten pin bowling! I know, I know, so much in one day.

Sunday morning I went up for 2 runs which I was happy with and I felt really good on my new large Giant. I was the last rider to go in the first run and I felt confident, but Johann Potgieter was just before me and I knew it would be tough as I had never beaten him before. I had been really close but had'nt actually done it. I set off on my first run and had an awesome run, super smooth, pedalled well and no mistakes which I was really pleased with. I thought that after that run it may be good enough to beat johann and it was, I did a 3:08 and Johann did a 3:10. I was a bit shocked to have that time as it was the new track record as well!

However the day was'nt over yet, I still had one more run to go. In the 2nd run the weather took a turn for the worse and the wind picked up which made the times quite a lot slower. I had finally done it, I had won my first race, I had been so close so many times before but now I had done it!

The top three were:

Stefan Garlicki : 3:08
Johann Potgieter : 3:10
Chris Nixon : 3:18

I would just like to thank all my sponsors: Titanium designs, Adidas eyewear, Leatt, Csixx, Giant bicycles and THE helmets. Also a thankyou to all the organisers of the event, Andre Van Der Merwe for the help and everyone who supported me!

Untill next time....

Red bull lake jump

I just wanted to give you an idea of the lake jump..... the flying person up there is me :)
Wooooohoooo! what fun!

Contermans Kloof shuttle day and Red bull Lake jump

This last Sunday was a really cool day at Contermans, rode some DH and had 2 massive jumps into the lake. I did 3 runs in the morning on the course and was loving my new frame. It took a bit of getting used to but it was sick!
Then at 2 o clock all hell broke loose! We headed over to the lake jump and it was a massive take off. I am not going to lie, I was scared :o...... Guys started bombing down the hill at about 40kph and sending it, so I decided that if I was going to do it then I was going to do it properly and I did. I took a huge run in and went as fast as I could, the result was flying around 25m into the lake. It was awesome, so scary but really fun. I only did 2 jumps that were huge and that was enough for me, I was safe and had a good day. As I right this I am pretty sore from hitting that water...
Thanks to Rob Stark for organising it and also to Red bull and Unit clothing for making it a sick event.

Untill next time...

Red bull Urban Assault

I recently raced in the urban assault which runs down Signal hill in Cape Town.

The coarse was not technical at all and it was a long pedal! It was not a real downhill race, rather like a marathon race. Anyway I ended up getting 2nd overall to Johann Potgieter  who is a very strong pedaller. I did win the Redbull speed trap with a speed of 62.5kph!
I was really pleased about that and am ready to go work for next season where I will be riding for th Canfield Factory team in Europe.
I would like to thanks all my sponsors from this year, Redbull, Leatt, Titanium designs, Csixx, Giant bicycles, Cycles Africa and Adidas eyewear.

Untill next time!
